Amalia grew up working in the 5 restaurants owned by her Greek family in New York. In 1981 she moved to Houston with her husband and son. Amalia learned the finer points of managing restaurants and creating Tex-Mex cuisine by working with her family and for several famous restaurant chains. She obtained a loan and opened her first restaurant in the Copperfield area in late 1985 offering her own specially developed menu. As word about the quality of Amalia?s Mexican Restaurant spread, the restaurant grew in size as space became available, the she opened her second restaurant in 1988, and the third in 1991. More restaurants are being planned so that people all over Houston will be able to enjoy Amalia?a fresh cooking using the freshest produce, real dairy cheeses, seafood that comes from the Gulf of Mexico, and fresh meats that are never frozen. Nothing is ever prefabricated at Amelia?s. You?ll really taste the difference!
