Tavern On Main is located in one of Westport's most historic colonial homes built circa 1810. The menu matches the setting with innovative New England Country Cooking prepared by one of the East's most acclaimed chefs, Jose Briceno. Elise Maclay of Connecticut Magazine calls the menu, "delectable...sparklingly fresh...absolutely delicious." Three dominant fireplaces, low ceiling beams, wide planked floors and early American ironworks add to the charming ambiance of Tavern On Main.
A bustling Tap Room is themed after "the hunt" and features an antique mahogany bar and tables, old flintlocks and carbines, and hand blown windows offering a glimpse of the cozy dining area. A picturesque dining terrace overlooking the buzz of activities on Main Street accommodates guests in warm weather months.
Executive Chef, Jose Briceno cooks up a menu of honest, satisfying dishes prepared with exceptional talent and flair. Chef Jose Briceno has had an abundance of top class culinary experience which he joyously brings to Westport's Tavern on Main. Although born and raised in Chile, his most recent cooking tenure was with German born, French trained Thomas Henkelmann, the proprietor of Greenwich's world class, four star Homestead Inn. Previous to that, as a Chef/Partner of the Telluride Restaurant in Stamford, he brought his Chilean heritage into play with a Southwestern mix combined with old world dishes. And now at Tavern on Main, all of that influence and experience reaches a creative and tasteful finale with a superlative blend of French and American cuisine combined with that ever present Briceno tinge.
Open 7 days a week for both lunch and dinner, Tavern's menu changes seasonally capitalizing on the freshest ingredients in the market at the time. Festive holiday menus are featured on all special occasions. Tavern's unique combination of extraordinary food, irresistible atmosphere and fine service make it a gathering place for business people, celebrities, couples, locals and visiting out-of-towners. New York Times critic Patricia Brooks sums up a visit to Tavern On Main as "a commendable dining experience."
