Heritage India's excellent kitchen and elegant setting marks it as a breakthrough Asian restaurant. Not only did it refresh the local repertory of Indian restaurants with less familiar dishes--chicken stewed in its own juices with a marinade of sesame paste and poppy seeds; a Kashmiri lamb curry in a sauce of saffron-flavored yogurt--it also made such classics as lamb vindaloo and butter chicken taste better than they do anywhere else. So that a couple can accompany its main course with two or three of the vegetable curries, all those preparations are offered in half portions to accompany a main course.
