On December 9, four of us enjoyed the Aquarelle restaurant prior to the Kennedy Center Holiday event. All four accepted the special for Kennedy Center events, which was priced at $38 per person, and included either filet mignon or sea bass as the entree. Two of us ordered the beef, and two ordered the sea bass. Both were exceptional!
As a starter, three ordered the salad and I ordered the tomato soup, which was exceptional with croutons added in the center and parsely sprinkled over. I personally could have done nicely with a few less parsely sprinkles, otherwise it was grand. And to tie up the meal, which took over an hour and half from beginning to end, we finished with berries and truffles, both of which were very good.
Although the selections were limited, I felt the entire event was well worth the time spent. The final tab was $235 which included a bottle of Chardonnay at $35, and two cocktails (for the guys)! We also had sparkling water versus plain water at an additional $12. I thought it was just a bit pricey, but that's my opinion, but the steaks were so wonderful, with a lovely gravy, it overshadowed any other minor concerns. My friends who ordered the sea bass absolutely finished every bite, including the broth, so I would conclude that the sea bass was a hit also.
The biggest problem we had was getting the attention of the waiter when we needed to actually rush through the final course. Consider starting at 6:30pm for an 8:30pm event at the Kennedy center, and you'll probably do OK. We started at closer to 7PM, and the time was a bit short.
All-in-all, this was an exceptional dining experience. Good show Aquarelle!
